About the Data

All readings are sourced from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) via the World Air Quality Index (WAQI). CPCB operates India's Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring System (CAAQMS) — a network of real-time sensors installed across cities and industrial zones.

What the Limits Mean

India's National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) set the 24-hour PM2.5 limit at 60 µg/m³. The WHO recommends 15 µg/m³. Most Indian cities routinely exceed both — making this data directly relevant to public health, ESG reporting, and regulatory compliance.

Relevance to ESG

Under SEBI's BRSR framework, India's top 1,000 listed companies must disclose environmental impact data. CPCB monitoring data provides the baseline against which corporate emissions, site selection, and climate risk are benchmarked by sustainability consultants.
